Are the converters free?
Yes, for personal and research use. The Community version of the converters is free for non-commercial use: personal learning, research and teaching. You enter your e-mail on cadbimconverter.com and the download starts at once. The ddc-tools, workflows and documentation on GitHub are MIT-licensed. The converters themselves are proprietary: use in a company, for clients or in a product needs a licence on request.
Do I need Revit, AutoCAD or an Autodesk licence?
No. The converters read RVT, IFC and DWG files directly: no Autodesk licence, no Revit installation, no plugins, no API keys and no cloud upload.
Can I convert RVT to IFC without Revit?
Yes. The DDC RVT to IFC converter reads RVT and RFA files from Revit 2019 to 2027 directly and writes IFC4 in three profiles: full, coordination and geometry. No Revit installation and no Autodesk licence are needed, and it runs offline from the desktop app or the command line.
Is there an online Revit or DWG converter?
We deliberately ship offline converters instead of an upload service. You download them once and convert on your own computer or server, so drawings and models never leave your company. For many files at once, run them in batch from the command line, Python or n8n.
Is it a Revit version converter? Can I open a Revit 2025 or 2026 file without upgrading Revit?
You can read it. The Revit converters read RVT and RFA files from Revit 2019 to 2027 without opening Revit. They write geometry as GLB, properties as JSONL and the model as IFC4, and a flat Excel table with the free ddc table tool. They do not save the file back as an older .rvt version.
Can I convert RVT to DWG, DWG to IFC or IFC back to Revit?
Not with these converters. They turn RVT, IFC and DWG into open data: Excel, CSV, JSONL and SQLite tables, GLB geometry, DXF and SVG drawings and, for Revit, IFC4. They do not write DWG or RVT files. To bring an IFC model into Revit, open or link it in Revit itself; to work with its data, convert it to Excel with the IFC converter. Writing edited parameters back into a Revit model is the job of the Excel to Revit add-in, available on request.
Which operating systems are supported?
Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. Use the desktop app, or run the executable from CMD or PowerShell, from Python, n8n or any tool that can start a process.
Which file versions can I convert?
DDC Converters 2.0 read Revit RVT and RFA files from 2019 to 2027, IFC 2x3 and IFC4 (also zipped) and AutoCAD DWG from R13 to 2018.
Does my project data leave my computer?
No. Conversion runs fully offline on your own machine or server. Nothing is uploaded, which is why the converters are used for confidential projects and inside closed company networks.
What is the difference between the free and the ad-free version?
The software is the same. In the Community version an ad page may open after a conversion. The ad-free licence removes it and adds support by e-mail and updates. Terms and the right of withdrawal are on the licence page of cadbimconverter.com.
Can I convert hundreds of files automatically?
Yes, with a licence for batch and server use. Call the converter in a loop from PowerShell, Python or n8n. Ready-made n8n workflows on GitHub cover batch conversion with validation and reporting, classification, cost estimation and HTML quantity takeoffs; they were written for earlier converter builds, so check the options against the 2.0 command line.
